- The Austerlitz station is located on the left bank of the Seine, in the south-east of the city, in the 13th arrondissement.
- The station was originally called the Orleans station.
- The station is named after the Czech city formerly known as Austerlitz. Napoleon I won the battle of Austerlitz and the station was named in his honor.
- A vast renovation project for the Paris Austerlitz station is currently underway.
- The interior will be rebuilt to handle the TGV Sud-Est and TGV Atlantique services, which have been partially transferred to the Gare du Lyon and Gare Montparnasse, which have reached maximum capacity.
